My time in Vietnam & Cambodia was a wonderful experience, culturally enriching & packed full with adventure. The Vietnam School Tours structure meant that all the logistical complexities were taken care of leaving me – as a teacher – free to share in the full depth of experience enjoyed by
the students and to have meaningful conversations with them about what they are learning.
In Cambodia, the terrible history of the country in recent decades was captured powerfully during our time there, challenging the boys sense of perspective & privilege. Shining through though, was the remarkable resilience, kindness and warmth of the Cambodian people and this was a powerful lesson for many of us. The rich ancient history of the area was also celebrated with a fantastic visit to Angkor.
Our time at Camp Tbeng was a particular highlight of the trip and while the boys were comfortable at the camp they still witnessed a daily life very different to their own, which will be of enormous benefit to them. The opportunity to work at Tbeng primary brought the best out of the students and it is an experience they won’t forget any time soon.
Moving to Vietnam, particularly starting in the North it was striking to see a very different perspective on the American-Vietnamese war than the narrative encountered at home. Visiting significant sites and most powerfully talking to veterans challenged, extended & added depth to all of our understandings of the historical narratives surrounding the war.
Halong Bay was a favorite for many due to its sheer natural beauty, while the bustle of Saigon provided a fascinating contrast to Hanoi.
Lastly, the chance to visit Nui Dat and Long Tan was an important experience, while it was a long drive out, the Australian connection added greatly to the trip. All guides, drivers, hotels and transport – travel logistics – were fantastic!
A very professional & seamless tour that allowed the experience to be at the fore. Thanks so much!
